Does a witness to a will need to sign it?

Payne v Payne [2018] EWCA Civ 985

In this case, the Court of Appeal considered the proper construction of s9 of the Wills Act 1837 and held that it is not necessary for a witness to sign a Will in the manner in which that word is commonly understood, but rather that it is enough for witnesses to have merely written their names on the Will. The lead judgment was given by Henderson LJ.
