Withdrawal of life support from terminally ill child

The Supreme Court has been involved in the harrowing litigation concerning the tragic circumstances surrounding the death of Alfie Evans. This has highlighted an almost intractable problem for parents, clinicians and lawyers that can arise when parents and clinicians cannot agree on the decision whether to withdraw life support from a child. Alfie, aged 23 months, was suffering from a rare undiagnosed degenerative brain disorder.
