Corruption - Contempt of court - Prejudicial reporting

The applicant sought permission to appeal his conviction for four offences of corruption under section 1 of the Prevention of Corruption Act 1906. He argued that widely reported high profile statements by the Prime Minister relating to corruption in Nigeria could have had such a prejudicial effect on the jurors that the trial judge ought to have discharged the jury.
