ABI URGES GOVERNMENT TO PRESS AHEAD WITH OGDEN CHANGES

Welcoming the Justice Select Committee report on changes to the UK bodily injury discount rate setting mechanism, the Association of British Insurers (ABI) called on the government to press ahead with proposed reforms. ABI director general Huw Evans said: “It is widely recognised that reform is vital. It is time to press ahead in the interests of getting a system that is fair for everyone.” Responding to the Committee’s calls for more evidence, the ABI said that “further evidence” would have to come from claimant advisers. Also commenting, Clyde & Co partner Peter Walmsley said: “While this postponement is disappointing, the good news is that the government remains committed to review the Ogden rate.”
