FinTech (short for “financial
technology”) is everywhere these days, catching the attention of the UK’s top
policymakers. In a September 2017 speech at the Bank of England, Prime Minister
Theresa May described the UK as “the
global hub of fintech”. [1] Even as FinTech has emerged as the UK’s
darling industry, the financial crime risks have remained only generically
examined, says
David Carlisle. Several
recent studies, though, have brought greater clarity to the money laundering
risk picture surrounding the FinTech sector, and speak to the implications for
compliance professionals.
