Rewarding whistleblowers: grave error or smart investment?

Paying whistleblowers is an emotive and divisive topic for fraud and corruption investigators. Many professionals believe that people should speak up about possible wrongdoing simply because it is the right thing to do. Others argue that a financial reward, as available in the United States, is necessary to provide employees with a level of comfort in case they face retaliation for speaking out.
