Collisions risk

Stuart Edmonston, loss prevention director at UK P&I Club, has advised on reducing the risks of collisions with fishing vessels following the release of a guide for masters and their bridge teams in conjunction with HOMARUS. He warned: “Close-quarter situations with fishing vessels sadly remain far too common. Tragically, lives are lost, fishing equipment damaged, and in some cases there is total loss of fishing vessels. Vessels should strive to take the relevant actions to recognise the varying types of fishing boats and methods, and understand that in practice the responsibility of avoiding collisions does not rest on the fishermen alone.”
