Department for Education survey on asbestos management in schools


The Department for Education (DfE) has published a report setting out the findings from the voluntary asbestos management in schools data collection exercise. Approximately 25 per cent of schools in England (5,592 schools) responded to the survey and of those, a majority (around 80 per cent) appear to be managing asbestos well and are fully compliant with legislation and guidance. However, around 20 per cent were not fully compliant, in that they did not have fully documented plans, processes and procedures in place at the time of the data collection, or did not know if asbestos was present.
