CHUBB RETURNS STOLEN ROCKWELL PAINTING 40 YEARS AFTER THEFT

Global property/casualty group Chubb has returned a Norman Rockwell painting – Boy Asleep with Hoe – to the family of its original owners more than 40 years after it was stolen from the family’s home in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. Chubb acquired the rights to the painting after paying the claim to the Grant family in the wake of the 1976 theft. Reports said that the painting is currently valued at up to $1m, much higher than its value at the time of the theft. Following the recovery of the painting by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Grant family returned the claims payment to Chubb. Chubb said that it will donate the returned funds to the Norman Rockwell Museum in Stockbridge, Massachusetts.
