Carriage of goods by sea – Package limitation – 1924 Hague Rules, article IV rule 5 – Whether package limitation capable of applying to bulk cargo – Meaning of “unit”

The defendant was the disponent owner of the vessel Aqasia. The claimants were the shippers and the insurers of a cargo of 2,000 tons of fishoil in bulk carried at a lump sum freight. The contract of carriage was contained in and/or evidenced by a charterparty which incorporated the 1924 Hague Rules.
