Gifting the donor’s home

A marked trend in the 21st century has been private individuals purchasing houses and flats, to hold as investments rather than for owner-occupation. It is clear from remarks made by the Chancellor in his Autumn Statement that this is not a trend that he wishes to encourage. Nevertheless, it seems likely that, in spite of the tax changes announced in the Summer Budget and the Autumn Statement, there will be a strong inclination on the part of individuals to invest in rented housing, perhaps in preference to the products of the financial services industry.
