CANOPIUS HIRES LOBO TO LEAD UPSTREAM OIL AND GAS ENGINEERING
Canopius has confirmed the appointment of Francis Lobo as its new head of upstream oil and gas engineering. Lobo, who began his career in the oil industry, has joined from XL Catlin where he was head of engineering. Lobo has been at Catlin since 2011, and previously served Berkley Offshore and AIG Europe. His career in the oil industry spanned 18 years. In his new role, Lobo will report to Steve Warren, Canopius’ group head of energy and engineering. Warren said Lobo has “exceptional expertise” in the upstream energy insurance market. “His deep knowledge of the technical aspects and issues around oil and gas extraction will provide us with tremendous insight into understanding the risk mitigation needs of our clients in the petroleum industry, enabling us to tailor our products more closely to their needs,” he said. Warren said Lobo’s appointment “represents a significant competitive advantage in this specialty area”.
