MEEs

New minimum energy efficiency (MEE) regulations have been passed by both houses of parliament – the Energy Efficiency (Private Rented Property) (England and Wales) Regulations 2015 (SI 2015/962) (MEES). Parts 1 and 2 will take effect from 1 April 2016 and Pt 3 will take effect from 1 October 2016. The regulations apply to both domestic and non-domestic private rented property. A significant date is 1 April 2018 because as from that date it will be unlawful for landlords to grant new leases or tenancies (including renewals and extensions of existing leases) of property which falls below the minimum “E” rating.
