The Norman Atlantic casualty: insurance and legal implications

Terry Donaghy, of Weightmans, looks at the recent casualty in the Mediterranean

The recent high profile casualty involving a large passenger ferry, Norman Atlantic, will give rise to various insurance and legal implications for the vessel’s owners, charterers and their liability insurers. The vessel was on charter to the Greek ferry company, Anek Lines, at the time and it is likely to be the carrier under the contracts of carriage and applicable legislation.
