Warning of increasing kidnap risks in Gulf of Guinea

As the number of reported incidents off Nigeria continues to rise, Lee Coppack looks at the problem and suggests some risk transfer solutions

Six weeks after the master and chief engineer were reported kidnapped from the 2904 grt cable laying vessel Mariner Seaoff the Bayelsa coast of Nigeria, there was still no news of the two men. The incident occurred on 6 February, the same day as pirates also attacked two tankers off the coast of Nigeria.
