AON’S 2013 INCOME RISES 12%

Insurance broker Aon saw its 2013 net earnings rise 12% to $1.11bn, as operating income rose 10% to $318m in its human resources segment and climbed 3.1% to $1.54bn in its broking segment. Overall, commissions and fees grew 2.8% to $11.79bn, while operating expenses increased 2.3% to $10.14bn. The broking segment posted commissions and fees of $7.76bn, up 2.2% in total and up 3% organically. Its retail insurance business had $6.26bn in commissions and fees, up 2.7% in total and 4% higher organically. Commissions and fees in its reinsurance broking business were flat at $1.51bn but were 2% higher on an organic basis. The group’s human resources segment posted commissions and fees of $4.06bn, up 3.4% in total and up 3% organically. For Q4, net earnings rose 16% to $355m, as operating income in the human resources segment doubled to $156m.
