Call for evidence

IACS chairman, Roberto Cazzulo, speaking at the International Maritime Organization (IMO) World Maritime Day symposium on sustainable maritime transportation system, noted that IMO had recently supported in principle an IACS proposal for establishing an Energy Efficient Design Index (EEDI) Database for new ships being constructed in accordance with new IMO GHG regulations. “This will create an evidence base on which to judge the success of the regulations and to help design more efficient new ships,” he said. “IACS has pledged its support for developing evidence-based new rules on ship efficiency through IMO.”
