Unrest indicators triggered in Egypt
Two key indicators for likely large-scale civil unrest at the time of the constitutional referendum set for November have
been triggered. First, on 23 September, an Egyptian court banned ‘all activities’ by the Muslim Brotherhood (MB) and ordered
the seizure of the group’s funds. This paves the way for more concerted legal action against businessmen supporting the MB.
Second, on 25 September, the 50-person committee charged by the Army with rewriting the 2012 constitution announced its intention
to include an article banning political parties advancing a religious agenda.
