IHS Country Risk outlines risks linked to political events in three volatile countries

Unrest indicators triggered in Egypt

Two key indicators for likely large-scale civil unrest at the time of the constitutional referendum set for November have been triggered. First, on 23 September, an Egyptian court banned ‘all activities’ by the Muslim Brotherhood (MB) and ordered the seizure of the group’s funds. This paves the way for more concerted legal action against businessmen supporting the MB. Second, on 25 September, the 50-person committee charged by the Army with rewriting the 2012 constitution announced its intention to include an article banning political parties advancing a religious agenda.
