£170,000 settlement over mesothelioma
The family of a man who died after he developed mesothelioma has received a settlement of £170,000. The man, a labourer, worked
with asbestos every day for two years in the 1970s. He had been contracted to work on site at an oil refinery in the mid-seventies,
and his job was to assist laggers by carrying and helping prepare the asbestos-filled lagging that they would then apply to
pipe work as insulation. He would be covered in the lagging mix dust when loading and unloading the bags. He would then have
to clean up after the laggers, sweeping up the discarded insulation.
