ONTARIO GOVT ANNOUNCES 15% CUT IN MOTOR RATES

The governing minority Liberal party in Ontario has announced a 15% cut in motor insurance rates, the latest in a series of measures that aim to bring the NDP on board, reports City News Canada. The NDP had threatened to make the budget proposal a vote of confidence, which could trigger an election. If the budget passes it would see insurers being required to offer lower rates to customers with safe driving records. Finance Minister Charles Sousa said that about 9m drivers would benefit from the change, and would save the average driver about CAD226 a year. The Progressive Conservatives have already said that they will vote against the budget.
