GROWTH AT UK P&I
The UK protection and indemnity (P&I) Club has increased its entered tonnage through a combination of taking business away
from its rivals and existing members expanding their accounts. The new tonnage represents 7.6m gross tonnes (gt) and has been
added to the club's books over the course of the past year. About 60% came from existing members who have entered additional
vessels, while the remaining 40% has come from new members who have either joined the club for the first time or are returning
having spent time with other International Group clubs. It left the UK Club with 120 million gt of entered tonnage on February
20. The normal rate of movement between clubs each year has averaged 2%, but
Lloyd's List reported that this year the shift at the February 20 renewal is likely to be higher.
