Liability Risk and Insurance
Settlement of £1.6 million for motorbike injury
A man who was knocked off his bike by a driver turning right into a side road and sustained severe leg injuries which led
to his having a below knee amputation, has received a settlement of £1.6 million. As a consequence of his injuries, pain and
loss of mobility, he developed psychological injury and lost his job. The car driver’s insurers argued that he was partly
to blame for the accident. They alleged that his road position was inappropriate and he had been speeding. His lawyers secured
extensive expert evidence to support his case, including accident reconstruction evidence on the liability issues.
