£100,000 damages for loss of eye

A man who lost an eye as a result of an accident at work has received £100,000 in compensation. He was injured when loading a kitchen worktop on to the roof of his work van. The worktop was being secured by the man and his college with a bungee cord. The colleague was on his mobile phone and had hooked one end of the bungee cord to the bracket on the top of the van and had passed the other end of the cord to the man to secure. As he pulled the bungee cord to secure the worktop in place, the bungee cord sprung free and the metal hook at the end hit him in his left eye.
