Hong Kong collision in spotlight

Mike Burns, of Weightmans, looks at the legal and insurance implications of the recent Hong Kong vessel collision tragedy

On 2 October, in the busy waters of Victoria Harbour, Hong Kong, the Lamma IV, a private vessel belonging to the Hong Kong Electric Company, on a pleasure cruise to watch the Chinese National Day fireworks display, collided with the popular Kowloon ferry Sea Smooth, running from Hong Kong Island to Lamma, an outlying island. This tragically resulted in 38 fatalities and more than 100 injured.
