Call for safer evacuation of engine rooms

David Wright, risk assessor at the UK P&I Club, outlines the risks around exiting engine rooms

Engine rooms by their very nature are hazardous areas. There are many reasons for this since fire and flooding (say, following a collision) are ever present risks. It is essential therefore that anyone in an engine room should be able to get out quickly should the need arise.
