The Ig Noble art of pointless research

The Ig Noble Awards are with us again, and as usual there were some cracking winners. The Awards are presented to academics involved in apparently pointless and absurd research, something that the insurance industry is, of course, well noted for. Much of the research appears pointless because it is seems to be just stating the bleedin’ obvious. But of course, academics like to be rigorous.
