WASHINGTON FINES GEICO COMPANIES FOR BREACHES
Washington state has fined four Geico insurance companies, part of the
Berkshire Hathaway conglomerate, $120,000 for using an “unapproved scoring
model to evaluate and offer personal auto coverage to consumers in 2004”. Some
24,000 policies were evaluated under the unapproved system and 904
policyholders were affected, said Washington insurance commissioner Mike
Kreidler. He said that the four companies — Government Employees insurance Co,
Geico General Insurance Co, Geico Indemnity Co and Geico Casualty Co — had
signed a consent order, agreed to pay the fine and comply with state
requirements.
