SHAKE-UP AT AMLIN SEES PROMOTION FOR SIMON BEALE
Specialist insurer Amlin has appointed Simon Beale, previously head of underwriting in London, to the role of Group Chief
Underwriting Officer. In an appointment that appears to integrate European operation Amlin Corporate Insurance (ACI) further
into Amlin as a whole, the insurer said that Mr Beale would "help ensure that Amlin's underwriting standards are applied across
the group". He will in particular co-ordinate underwriting strategy where the same class of business is being written in more
than one division. In another appointment, Andreas Luberichs, head of Group Underwriting since March 2011, is to transfer
to ACI, formerly part of the Fortis Group. He is to become Executive President for non-marine, reporting to ACI chief executive
Kim Hvirgel. The country managers of Belgium, France and the Netherlands will report to Mr Luberichs on the development of
Amlin's non-marine business. Belgian national Bert Nelen, formerly of Ace Europe, starts at ACI from today as Executive President,
Marine (
IIN 24, April 25 2012). In other changes, Amlin said that Corporate Centre Risk, led by group chief risk officer James Illingworth,
would "function as an independent second line of defence for the Group with a focus on further implementing and validating
Amlin's internal model as required under Solvency II regulation, as well as identifying and understanding unacceptable levels
of risk and prompting management action as necessary". Reserving risk will be reviewed independently of the actuarial function,
with Richard Hextall, group finance & operations director, in charge of the former.
