MERCHANT LAW GROUP LAUNCHES CAD75M CLASS ACTION OVER OIL SPILL
Merchant Law Group has launched a CAD75m ($74m) class action against Plains Midstream Canada ULC in a suit that relates to
an oil spill in Alberta earlier this month. About 475,000 litres of sour crude leaked into Jackson Creek, near Sudre, Alberta,
according to the Merchant Law statement, reported by
Canadian Underwriter. The most recent Plains Midstream Canada statement noted that 279 response staff were on site on June 22, and that more than
28,000 work hours had already supported the clean-up effort. A nearby trout pond, a refuge for birds and waterfowl in the
area, had been closed as part of the clean-up efforts.
