New guidelines for armed guards planned

As the first land based attacks against pirate strongholds in Somalia took place, a high level meeting of the International Maritime Organisation was considering an international standard for armed guards on ships. Liz Booth reports

The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) is to be asked to develop international standards for armed guards on ships after two weeks of meetings at the International Maritime Organisation (IMO).
