Salvaging of today's ultra-large vessels

Geoff Holland, of Braemar (incorporating The Salvage Association), discusses the emerging risk of today’s ultra-large vessels

Today’s container ships are almost 400 metres long and 56 metres wide and capable of carrying 14,770 TEUs (20’ standard containers), with approximately 7,700 carried on deck. By 2014 we will start to see even larger vessels coming into service with orders already placed for ships capable of carrying up to 18,000 TEUs.
