Cargo liquefaction - still a problem; still taking lives

Daniel Crockford, of Greenwoods Solicitors, urges the shipping industry to follow the rules of carrying dangerous cargo

On 25 December 2011 the shipping industry was again reminded of the dangers of cargo liquefaction following the tragic loss of the Vinalines Queen and all but one of her crew. Vinalines Queen was carrying nickel ore from Indonesia to China and joins the list of vessels, including the Jian Fu Star , the Nasco Diamond , the Hong Wei , the Asian Forest and the Black Rose , sunk by this phenomenon in the last few years.
