Swimming pool accident

Woodland v The Swimming Teachers' Association & Ors [2011] EWHC 2631 (QB), 17 October 2011

Miss Woodland sustained severe brain injuries while swimming with her school class at a swimming pool in Basildon when she was 10 years old. By her litigation friend she sued the Swimming Teachers’ Association; Beryl Stotford, who employed the swimming teacher and the life guard; the life guard; the education authority, Essex County Council; and Basildon Council which ran the swimming pool facilities. Beryl Stotford was an independent contractor to Essex County Council.
