Food security: Famine spreads and food prices soar
HORN OF AFRICA: Four million people are in crisis in Somalia because of famine, with 750,000 people at risk of death in the
coming four months in the absence of an adequate multi- sectoral response, the Food Security and Nutrition Working Group has
warned. Post-harvest assessments have shown this year’s cereal crop is the lowest in Somalia for 17 years. Following two consecutive
seasons of poor rains, crop production this year has been extremely poor in southern Somalia.
