Insurance Day
Record Kansas claims
Christopher Munro
APRIL saw the highest value of property damage claims ever to be recorded in the Midwestern state of Kansas. According to
the Kansas Insurance Department, the severe storms that hit the state in April have brought about estimated insured losses
of some $502.5m. These claims have come from approximately 66,000 claims that have been filed. The total of $502.5m easily
beats the previous one-month Kansas record of $337.5m, which was recorded in June 2008. Kansas has now incurred some $531.5m
of insured losses in 2011, the fourth-highest yearly total for losses since the Kansas Insurance Department started compiling
records in the early 1990s.
