Medtronic pays $268mn settlement

US medical devices manufacturer Medtronic has agreed to pay $268mn to settle about 8100 personal injury cases. The company recalled a number of defibrillation leads prone to cracking and other failures three years ago. The settlement relates to the ‘Sprint Fidelis’ leads, which are used to connect hearts to implantable defibrillators. Problems with the devices are reported to be linked to 13 deaths and the compensation relates to cases in state and federal courts. The company has not admitted any liability.
