Lessons from Madoff as fallout hits banks

HSBC faces a US$6.6 billion claim in a US lawsuit brought by Irving Picard, the court-appointed bankruptcy trustee seeking to recover funds lost by investors in Bernard Madoff’s US$65 billion Ponzi investment fraud; his company, Bernard L Madoff Investment Securities (BLMIS) collapsed in December 2008.
