Don’t shoot the messenger is more often ignored than heeded on discovery of fraud in the UK. The position could not be more different in the US, writes Andrew Durant of FTI Consulting, at least in cases of government contract fraud, and now some securities law breaches, when whistleblowers stand to gain sizeable awards.

In May this year, the new Coalition government announced that the Conservative Party manifesto commitment to create an all-powerful Economic Crime Agency (ECA), by merging certain functions of the Serious Fraud Office (SFO) and Financial Services Authority (FSA), would become policy.
