£1.5mn settlement for motorcycle injury
A man who was left paralysed form the waist down after being knocked from his motorcycle has received £1.5mn in an out of
court settlement. The man suffered a serious spinal injury in the incident. He had been riding his motorbike through heavy
traffic on the approach to a set of traffic lights. Traffic was congested and he was manoeuvring his bike between two queues
of slow-moving vehicles. A car pulled out from the offside lane and moved across to the nearside lane - knocking him from
his motorbike. His injuries left him wheelchair bound. Road collision experts from both sides agreed that the practice of
manoeuvring between lanes of slower-moving traffic was not only permissible but a well-recognised method of negotiating slower-moving
traffic. It was shown that the car driver had failed to check his mirror when pulling out.
