Damages of £2mn for brain damage from Lithium
A man who suffered brain damage as a result of Lithium toxicity has won damages of £2mn. He suffered with bipolar disorder,
and although he was prescribed Lithium there was a failure to monitor his Lithium levels. As a result the GP was unaware that
he was becoming increasingly ill due to Lithium toxicity. Unfortunately, he eventually ended up on an intensive care unit
for a significant period, and was a hospital inpatient for three and a half years due to both neurological damage, and for
some periods, because his bipolar disorder had become unstable as he was no longer able to take and have his condition controlled
by Lithium.
