The claimants sought damages and compensation under the Commercial Agents (Council Directive) Regulations 1993 on the basis
that they had in February 2006 been appointed as commercial agents by the defendant to sell jewellery, and that the agency
was wrongfully terminated by the defendant in February 2008. The court concluded as follows.
