£1.8mn and annual payments for brain damage at birth
A boy who suffered severe brain damage and permanent disabilities due to the negligent delay in delivery during his birth
has been awarded a lump sum of £1.8m and considerable annual payments for the rest of his life. At 41 weeks gestation, his
mother attended hospital for induction of labour. The CTG trace began to show foetal distress but at no point were the obstetricians
called to review the situation, and the paediatricians were not informed of the impending delivery of a very distressed baby.
He was delivered with the cord wrapped tightly round his neck twice and required resuscitation by bag and mask for 2-3 minutes.
He has four-limb cerebral palsy with cortical visual impairment, and is registered blind. He will be dependent throughout
his life on other people.
