ISO AND NICB TEAM UP TO FIGHT CARGO THEFT
The US Insurance Services Office (ISO) and the National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB) are to create a national information
sharing system that it hopes will cut cargo theft significantly. The two operations described cargo theft as "a multi-billion-dollar
economic drain". ISO and NICB said that the new system should enable more efficient sharing of cargo-theft information between
insurers, victims and law-enforcement authorities. A database called CargoNet will be launched in 2010. Ronal Thornton, CEO
of the Inland Marine Underwriters Association, said that "if CargoNet were in place today, I'm sure we'd be seeing a lot more
recoveries, and we'd be making thieves think twice about stealing these loads".
