Risk transfer buyers favour indices

The total volume of issued securities is currently valued at $24bn, or around 12% of total catastrophe reinsurance capacity

Indices make the derivative instruments that are used to transfer insurance risks to the capital markets more attractive for their buyers, according to a study published in the latest issue of Swiss Re’s sigma journal (No 4/2009).
