CALIFORNIA WILDFIRES THREATEN THOUSANDS OF HOMES

Eight wildfires raging in California have already destroyed more than 80 homes in the state and thousands more are threatened. The largest blaze is the so-called Station fire in the Angeles National Forest northeast of Los Angeles, which doubled in size Sunday night and Monday morning and has destroyed more than 20 homes and charred more than 85,000 acres. The blaze has threatened 12,000 homes and forced the evacuation of 6,600 more. Another blaze in San Bernardino County east of Los Angles threatened 2,000 houses, while a fire northeast of Sacramento has claimed 60 homes and other structures. Wildfires have hit other parts of the western US, striking Arizona, Colorado, Utah and Washington state.
