Insurance Day
Hurricane Katrina anniversary
TOMORROW marks the fourth anniversary of hurricane Katrina’s Louisiana landfall, which led to the levee failure that caused
the city of New Orleans to flood. Many of the city’s poorer regions have never recovered, and there continues to be concern
over the capabilities of the city’s flood- protection system should another storm of Katrina’s magnitude strike. Katrina is
also the largest hurricane insured loss on record, costing the industry more than $40m.
