Demand halves for new mortgage-linked applications

Mortgage insurance defaults were 8% up on April but 17% down since January

Demand for mortgage insurance in the US continues to be soft with just 55,464 private mortgage insurance applications received in May, around half the amount seen a year earlier, according to figures released by the Mortgage Insurance Companies of America (MICA), which includes most of the country’s largest mortgage insurers.
