Vietnam: three seafarers remained missing from product tanker Nhat Thuan which exploded and sank two days previously. The
vessel sustained an explosion when weighing anchor close to Vung Tau. Twelve of the 15 crew managed to jump overboard and
were rescued. The search for three crew members missing in the explosion continued although local press reported that officials
had little hope of finding them alive. The tanker sank following the explosion. The vessel was owned by Ho Chi Minh City-based
Binh Thuan Transport and was carrying 1,793 cubic metres, or 11,300 barrels, of waste oil and 10,000 litres of diesel to a
tanker offshore when the accident occurred. Authorities were also trying to contain an oil slick of around 5km in radius around
the sunken vessel.
