IUA OPENS WELCOMES NEW MEMBERS
The London-based International Underwriting Association (IUA) has voted to open its ordinary membership to companies from across the world. The move was agreed at the trade body’s annual meeting, after which IUA chairman Stephen Cane noted that “there are many insurance and reinsurance companies located outside the EU that have a strong interest in the London market”. He added that “we are now offering them an opportunity to work with us for its benefit”. The IUA currently represents 70 ordinary members and more than 30 run-off members, mainly based in London or the rest of the European Economic Area. It also has nearly 50 associate members from across 20 countries. The trade body was formed at the end of 1998 from the merger of two other London market associations — the Institute of London Underwriters and the London International Insurance and Reinsurance Market Association.
