Misrepresentation – landlord’s liability and quantum of damages

Salford City Council v Torkington [2004] EWCA Civ 1636

Cases concerning misrepresentation by a landlord prior to the grant of a lease are rare. Such a case came before the Court of Appeal recently on the question of approach to damages and will be of interest to readers. In Salford City Council v Torkington [2004] EWCA Civ 1636, the Court of Appeal looked at the basis of damages payable by landlord found to have made misrepresentations.
